Acoustic Showcase back for 2014

The now well established Suffolk Acoustic Showcase kicked off 2014 at the John Peel Centre with Dragonfruit performing an acoustic version of “Love is a Blanket Expression”.  Dragonfruit’s guitarist Ian Heywood performed this song at a Peel Session some 30+ years ago with the band “Agony Column”.  We like cool links like that to the Sessions!

A Waltz Through the Country

Watching first time visitors admiring the building that is the John Peel Centre is always a pleasure.  Our first Country and Western evening brought many first timers in to admire the conversion of this Victorian corn hall.  But it was Hank Wangford they had come to see and all thoughts of high ceilings, tall windows and exposed ironwork disappeared when the “four-tette” arrived on stage to enthusiastic applause.

Farewell Jon

On Sunday 20th Oct the John Peel Centre bid farewell to someone who has supported the centre from its inception. Tall with a mop of blonde hair, he is difficult to miss in a crowd, with a winning smile and a gentle nature – oh, and not half bad as a musician either!

Introducing his farewell gig, Jon Hart, claimed that it was something of a personal indulgence. Gathering his favourite musicians and friends and family together in a venue he has had so much to do with, just so he could hear them play, and indeed play alongside them.
